Easter Party Planning
Garden Themed Easter Party
or English Garden Party
Invitation Idea
Get a small cheap packet of seeds for each family or person that is
being invited and a small clay pot. Put a piece of paper over the back
of the packet of seeds and write out the invite for the party using
planting terms. For example you could say “The garden party will do
best in direct sunlight, and if you arrive at 3:00,” or “plant the
seeds in a rich soil, like the soil at the Smith home,” and put down
your address. Put the packet of seeds inside the pot and wrap a ribbon
around the pot and deliver the invites.
Decoration Ideas
Decorate as if this was an English garden party. Use as much wicker
and wood outdoor furniture as possible. Create lots of places to sit
and be sure to use a canopy or tent to block your guests from the sun.
Put real cut flower arrangements anywhere possible. Use white
tablecloths and simple place settings, but be sure to have floral
printed napkins and maybe even a single flower at each place setting.
Party
Craft Ideas
Have the kids with the help of a few adults paint and decorate their
own small flowerpot. Provide them with different colored paint,
sprinkles, and ribbon. They can then take their flowerpot home and
plant some of the seeds from the invitation in them.
Game Ideas
While the adults are enjoying the food and time talking to each other,
keep the kids entertained with this fun game. Play plant the flower
relay. You will need a large flower pot with dirt or sand in it for
the two teams. Provide the first person in the relay with a large seed
like a pumpkin seed. They will run out to the flowerpot dig a hole and
put the seed in the hole. They then run back to their team and the
next person runs out and puts the dirt over the seed. The next person
must run out and pour water on the seed from watering can. The final
person sprinkles it with fertilizer (you can use almost anything for
the fertilizer such as glitter or confetti). Make sure you have a few
seeds because the kids will probably want to continue to play until
they have had the chance to do all the things in the relay.
Food Ideas
The food is the main attraction of an English garden party. Think
dainty finger foods and rich small cakes. You can provide small
sandwiches, scones, and fruits and vegetables. Tea is also served but
if you prefer some other beverage feel free to offer it instead of
tea.
